SODIUM-POTASSIUM CITRATES - ORAL TABLETS

(SO-dee-um/poh-TASS-ee-um SYE-trate) 

USES:  This medication makes the urine less acidic. It is used in the treatment of certain kdiney disorders and gout.  It may also be used with some antibiotics to make them more effective.  

HOW TO USE:  The usual dosage is 1 to 4 tablets with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water, after meals and at bedtime.  Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taikng this medication.  Take as prescribed.  <br/><br/>Do not raise your dose or take this more otfen without your doctor's approval.  <br/><br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  Notify your doctor if you develop: diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, fluid retention, convulsions, unusual weakness, mental confusion, tingling or numnbess of the hands or feet. <br/>If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. <br/>

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor if you have: kidney problems, heart disease, liver disease, Addison's disease, high blood pressure, allergies (especially drug allergies), a sodium (salt) restricted diet (this drug contains sodium).  This medicaiton should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.  Discuss the risks and bneefits with your doctor.  Since smlal amounts of this medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: lithium, chlorpropamide, methotrexate, aspirin, water pills, heart or blood medication, methenamine, tetracyclines (including doxycycline and minocycline). <br/>Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist apporval.  <br/><br/>

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.   Symptoms of overdose may include listlessness, weakness, confusion, and tingling in arms or legs.  

NOTES:  While taking this medication, it may be necessary for you to test the pH (acidity) of your urine using special paper.  The pH will help determine the proepr dose. 

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scehdule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. 

STORAGE:  The tablets should be stoerd at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 TO 30 degrees C).]]></description>
